Exploring STEM Subjects with Your Child

STEM subjects are given a heavy focus at school and more initiatives are being put in place to do so. It stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, the subject responsible for producing inventors and scientists. They offer great career prospects with the average STEM related career earning $100,900 annually in the US. The job security that they offer is far superior as there’s a constant need to innovate and some skills are short in supply. We have teamed up with a boarding school in Berkshire to share a few ways in which you can explore STEM with your child below.

One of the ways that you can explore STEM is through water play. You can carry out sink or swim experiments in the garden using a bucket of water and objects that you and your child can find. You can turn it into a guessing game and see who guesses the most right.

Coding Games

Children love video games, so why not use that to your advantage and encourage them to do some school work? Coding games teach children the basics and produce opportunities for them to put them to practice. There are plenty that are available on the app store such as CodeCombat and CodinGame. You will be sure to find something that takes their fancy.

Number Crunching Games

A mental maths showdown is a great way to encourage your child to practise their mental maths and have some bonding time as a family.

Go to A Show

There are science and technology shows and museums all over the country that you can go out and visit. They make for good days out with the kids and can help them to see STEM applications in the real world.

Science Kits

The best thing about science is that you get to experiment. You can create your own child-safe experiments using toy science kits or tested DIY experiments at home.
